After the recovery process, prior addicts must enter the world through a new perspective. We all experience those everyday stresses that leave us wanting to find means of escape. When a recovering addict discovers these, it’s vital he/she doesn’t take to using drugs as a way to de-stress.
With relapse being so prominent amongst recovered individuals, this blog looks for different ways in which an individual can de-stress themselves without feeling the itch for a substance. It’s important to remember that you didn’t undergo so much treatment just for the sake of getting high again. And that there are many options available to you that can take your mind off drugs and alcohol.

The simple act of preparing, planting, and waiting for blossom all feels rewarding in a very natural/spiritual sort of way. Whether it be a large patch in your background or the window sills of your city apartment, gardening can be achieved by anyone. All the techniques for different plants being available on the internet. And if you’re sure you don’t have a reliable spot to plant, there’s always the option of community gardening.
- Do Yoga According to some researchers, people have been practicing Yoga for the sake of relaxation all the way back to 10,000 years ago. Yoga offers spirituality in the form of exercise. Which means you’ll be working out your body as you de-stress your mentality. Whether you want to get social about it in a class or you’d feel more comfortable learning the habit on your own, Yoga is something that can be done at anytime, anywhere. And the more you practice it, the more your body, brain, and spirituality will integrate.

People who discover meditation often discover something about themselves that’s been kept locked in the subconscious for years. Usually pushed back by the highs of a drug. People who use it to treat addiction will more-often-than-not witness why their addiction was ever a problem to begin with.
- Go Out of Your Way to be with Loved Ones Family and friends have always been an essential during treatments. More often than not, when an individual is feeling stressed out, they need to look no further than those already surrounding them. However, there’s more to be discovered out in the world. Often, recovering addicts feel a sense that they will lose their friends if these friends are still addicted to substances. It’s never easy to let go of someone you care about, yet, it’s necessary to if that person offers the chance for a relapse. In such a case, it’s suggested you attempt to meet new people. Recovery is commonly said to be starting a new life for yourself. If this is the case, there’s no reason you can’t go out there and start new friendships as well. The benefit new friends will introduce you to new hobbies.
- Take Classes, Get Your Career Going Have you always held an interest that you wanted to take into a career? Well, it’s never too late to start. In fact, after treatment is the perfect time to begin a career for yourself. With your head clear and the time free at your hands, you now hold to capabilities of getting your life in a direction you’ve always wanted it to go. College courses may not be necessary (depending on your field), yet, there are many other forms of classes that are created to help people start their career. Though, if you already have a career settled, you shouldn’t ignore the other possibilities these classes have to offer. We as human beings have the capability of holding in large amounts of knowledge. Don’t be weary of exploring everything you’ve wanted to know.
- Let Yourself Be Creative Creativity is considered to be a form of therapy in itself. Allow your ideas to span into the realms of painting, writing, music, filmmaking. You will find that releasing said ideas in such a manner will help you understand yourself as an individual. And with the advent of the internet, sharing this creativity has never been easier. If you’ve always had an artistic sense, but have held it back for whatever reason, now’s the time to let that creativity shine.
